THE ISSUES

DIABETES

According to the CDC, Native Americans are more likely than any other racial group in the US to have diabetes. Diabetes leads to kidney failure which can ultimately lead to death. Through better funding for treatment, prevention, and education, we can continue to decrease the number of Native diabetes sufferers.

SUICIDE

According to Indian Health Services, "suicide is the third leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 10 and 24, and the Native American/Alaska Native (AI/AN) population has the highest rate of death by suicide of all cultural groups."

EDUCATION

In 2015, American Indian/Alaska Native had the lowest high school completion rate and in 2014 had ta high school dropout rate 3x that of white students, according to the National Center For Education Statistics.

ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Native Americans are "particularly vulnerable to problems with substance use, which are tied in part to limited socioeconomic opportunity."
